After a wet and cool start this morning, the sun came out and it was a pretty nice Fall day. This week is just flying by and I just can’t wait until our Friday Free For All so here are this week’s Wednesday’s Shorts. I will take a quick look at some of the hot issues of this week and even some of the issues that fly under the radar. I hope you like them.
In light of the Teapublicans gaining control of the House in yesterday’s mid term elections, I thought it would be a good idea to look at the incoming Teapublican House members. You won’t be surprised that most of them deny that global warming is caused by human activity. Think Progress provided us a quick and dirty breakdown of what these Congressional neophytes claim that they believe. “Here is a snapshot of the GOP Class of 2010’s extremism:
ENVIRONMENT- 50% deny the existence of manmade climate change
- 86% are opposed to any climate change legislation that increases government revenueIMMIGRATION- 39% have already declared their intention to end the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of birthright citizenship
- 32% want to reduce legal immigrationTAXES/SPENDING- 91% have sworn to never allow an income tax increase on any individual or business – regardless of deficits or war
- 79% have pledged to permanently repeal the estate tax

It is amazing that people that have these untenable beliefs actually won their elections. Almost 40% of them want to amend the 14th Amendment and 50% do not believe the overwhelming scientific evidence that global warming is caused by man’s activities. Wow. Good thing these guys are only in office for 2 years!
