It has been a busy week, but we have finally made it to the weekend and now we are looking at an even busier weekend! Since it is Friday it is time once again for yet another edition of the AWMD Friday Free For All. This is the only time of the week when our arguewithmydad.com readers can control the topic(s) for discussion. All you have to do is get someone else to respond to your suggested topic and then the floor is yours. Don’t be shy and don’t hesitate. I will make some suggestions for a possible topic, but they are only suggestions. Today is Friday so only you can be the decider. But you need to tell us what you want to discuss. My first suggested topic for discussion is the story about the Teapublican Congressional candidate from Dallas who made an amazing and dangerous statement. He stated that if the Teapublicans do not take control of the government in the 2010 mid term elections, that one of the options that the party can utilize is a violent overthrow of the government! I wish I could say that I am making this up. “Republican congressional candidate Stephen Broden stunned his party Thursday, saying he would not rule out violent overthrow of the government if elections did not produce a change in leadership. In a rambling exchange during a TV interview, Broden, a South Dallas pastor, said a violent uprising ‘ “is not the first option,” but it is “on the table.” ‘ First of all, if a Democrat had said this, the Fox News arm of the Teapublican Party would be crying for his/her arrest for sedition. Secondly, this guy compares our current situation to that of the Founding Fathers who had to overthrow the British to gain independence. How can real Americans sit back and listen to people like this and not denounce them? This guy is even a frequent guest on Glenn Beck’s show. What is your take on this guy and what should be done with him? Can any mention of a violent overthrow of the government be protected by the First Amendment rights? What do you think?
