Since it is Friday it is time once again for yet another edition of the AWMD Friday Free For All. This is the only time of the week when our arguewithmydad.com readers can control the topic(s) for discussion. All you have to do is get someone else to respond to your suggested topic and then the floor is yours. Don’t be shy and don’t hesitate. Get busy and be sure to let us know your views and arguments so everyone can read and react to them. Right here on arguewithmydad.com. I will make a few suggestions for possible topics, but they are only suggestions. Today is Friday so only you can be the decider. But you need to tell us what you want to discuss. So, what is on your mind today? With all that is going on, how can you not speak your mind? Let’s hear from you!
The first suggested topic pertains to one of our old friends, New Gingrich. Now that Speaker Gingrich is the current leader in the Teapublican presidential field of candidates, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that he has come out in favor of repealing child labor laws! It seems that the Newster just doesn’t think that school janitors need jobs anymore and schools can just have the poor kids clean up the campus. “Conceding ever so slightly to flak he’s taken for calling child labor laws “stupid” and suggesting that schools fire janitors and replace with them poor kids, GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich got more specific today, saying working-class students should be limited to jobs like cleaning bathrooms. Bowing to concerns that janitorial work is dangerous, Gingrich floated, “What if they became assistant janitors and their jobs were to mop the floor and clean the bathroom?” Think Progress Just what is Gingrich smoking that makes him even consider that repealing child labor laws is appropriate and important? If this guy is the best the Teapublicans can offer America, Obama is a shoe-in.
The next suggested topic for discussion tonight is about the leader of the Teapublican party, Grover Norquist. I call him the leader because if he says jump, the Teapublicans in Congress ask “How high?” Norquist is the lobbyist who threatens Teapublican office holders to sign his anti-tax increase pledge or he will work to defeat them in the next election. This pond scum claims to be fighting for the common man to keep taxes from being raised. Of course, as a Teapublican, we should expect that he is lying when he makes that claim.
“Anti-tax zealot Grover Norquist, the president of Americans For Tax Reform and author of the radical anti-tax pledge that has played a significant role in hamstringing budget and deficit-reduction negotiations, has said that it is unacceptable for those who have signed his pledge to vote in favor of any tax increase. But now that President Obama and congressional Democrats are backing a tax cut aimed at stimulating economic growth, Norquist has changed his tune. Norquist met with Republican members today to let them know that opposing the extension of the payroll tax cut — which would provide many families an extra $1,000 a year — would not amount to supporting a tax increase, National Journal’s Billy House reported today:…” Norquist I guess what Grover was trying to say is that he is against any tax increase, unless of course it is a tax increase for the 99%!! What a hypocrite.
The final suggested topic discusses the statement made recently by former Republican United States Senator, John Danforth. It seems that Senator Danforth is very dissatisfied with the entire field of Teapublican presidential pretenders. “Former Sen. John Danforth had some choice words in describing his fellow republicans, especially those running for president: “I’ve been watching some of these republican debates and they’re just terrible. Terrible. How many have they had? Something like nine, ten, something like that, it seems like every week there’s a debate and, uh, and it’s embarrassing for me as a republican to watch this stuff. Tell us, sir, what exactly has been so embarrassing about your fellow republicans? What have been the big applause lines in these debates? Well, a statement that the governor of Texas is responsible for killing 234 people on death row. Or that we favor torture. Or that we’re creating a fence on the Mexican border that electrocutes people when they try to cross it. Or when people show up at the emergency room at hospitals and they’re not insured don’t treat them. And that, I mean these are the big applause lines, people just hoop and holler when they hear all that.” Fired Up Missouri
Senator Danforth should be commended for speaking out about these candidates who constantly try to “out crazy” their opponents. It is sad to see what the party of Goldwater has become. We already saw earlier in this post that the leading Presidential contender, Newt Gingrich, wants to abolish child labor laws and put poor kids to work at school. It is a shame that well meaning Republicans won’t stand up and call out these punks.
Let’s hear what You think about my posting. The sky is the limit and I will be anxiously waiting to see what issue You want to talk about. It is time to get busy and let everyone know what you are thinking about. Let’s hear from all of You! Don’t be shy and do not delay in telling us what you think. These are important issues that all of our readers should have an opinion on. It won’t hurt to let us know what You think. As a reminder, you check out my Guest Blog articles on the weekend at Prof. Jonathan Turley’s blog site.
