FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL
Posted by admin under politics
It is time, once again, for another edition of the AWMD Friday Free For All. This is the one time of the week when our arguewithmydad.com readers can control the topic(s) for discussion. All you have to do is get someone else to respond to your suggested topic and then the floor is yours. Don’t be shy and don’t hesitate. Get busy and be sure to get your views and arguments where everyone can read and react to them. Right here on arguewithmydad.com. I will make a couple of suggestions for possible topics, but they are only suggestions. Today, you can be the boss.
The first suggested topic I have is the hot issue that seems to be gaining importance by each day. That would be the Health Care reform legislation that is being formulated by the Obama administration. This linked Washington Post article discusses one possible model that the White House is considering. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/10/AR2009061003669.html. We need to discuss how we as a country can control our prices and improve our health care. The Public Health Care option as suggested in this linked article, http://pr.thinkprogress.org/2009/04/pr20090403, would not only improve health care in general, it would make it affordable for all. What do you think about the importance of Health Care reform and especially the Public Health Care Option?
My second suggested topic concerns the news that the second highest Republican in the House compared Obama’s policies to those of Putin in Russia. This is a variation of the normal theme from the Republicans where they try to allege that Obama and the Dems are Socialists or are supporting Socialistic legislation. This linked AP story that was reproduced on the Raw Story website gives us the amazing quote by Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia. http://rawstory.com/blog/2009/06/rep-cantor-compares-obamas-policies-to-putins-russia/. I see this as more name calling by Republicans who do not have a clue on what it takes to fix the problems this country has and therefore they resort to name calling. It sounds like Dick Cheney has never left Washington with these ridiculous comments. What do you think of Rep. Cantor’s statements?
Now that I have made my suggestions, what do you want to discuss. Don’t keep sitting there on your hands. Get to work and take a stand right here on Arguewithmydad.com. We are all waiting for you to give us your views. Don’t hesitate.

Cantor’s comment should be called what it actually is. It’s not just ‘ridiculous’. Comparing possibly the greatest & most charismatic leader in the history of the U.S., President Obama, to Putin, the leader of maybe the most corrupt totalitarian socialist regime in the history of the world, is a treasonous statement. The President & the Democratic Party should consider punishing Cantor for his disrespectful statement toward the President and the Office of the Presidency.
I know the neocons would cry foul, saying ‘Bush haters’ were allowed to have their freedom of speech by Bush & the republicans, but the difference is the country is now being lead by those with enlightened judgment and the new leaders should be accorded complete & unquestioned respect. The people spoke last November and the people voted for change, so the naysayers should be silent and stay out of the way of progress. Any dissent & disrespect of the President & the Presidency should be suppressed in order for the country to realize the full benefits of the coming changes. Over-the-line comments like Cantor’s should not be tolerated by those who are trying to run a better country and are working hard to provide happiness for everyone who lives in America & around the world.
“My Dad”, the biggest benefit of my new found liberalism is that of being able to wish for and get about anything we want. For example, take government health care. As a good liberal I feel that it is a great idea to have free health care for everyone. My problem is that I still get conflicted. Don’t get me wrong, feelings are so under rated but I still get an urge to think and insert logic.
According to Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel, the most current legislation by House Democrats will include $600 billion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. The total costs are projected to be from 1 to 1.5 trillion dollars. Oh what the heck, I guess we can soak the upper 5% of wage earners again. As my mentor maybe you can help me out with how we pay for medical nirvana?
Joe,
Thanks for checking in to arguewithmydad.com. While I agree with you that Rep. Cantor made a ridiculous and scandalous statement and should be called on it. However, I do not think that the neocons should be silenced. Just the opposite. They must be allowed to exercise their right to free speech. Besides they make fools of themselves every time they open their big mouths.
Qman,
Thanks for speaking your peace on the Friday Free For All. I have no problem whatsover with health care for all Americans. We can’t afford to not provide it for all of our citizens. Right now, only the wealthy can take full advantage of the health care system because the insurance companies are deciding what treatment will be paid for and which treatments won’t be paid for. Your doctor and yourself should decide the treatment, not some insurance company. It is not a surprise that health care for all will cost a lot of money. The cost will affect us all, not just the wealthy. However, without it our companies will not be able to compete with the rest of the world. And without it, we are not totally free.
