I have been remiss lately in keeping up with my blogging duties here at AWMD. However, one of my New Years resolutions is to regain my regular blogging schedule and I aim to keep that resolution. It has been a scary year, but a good one. My son came back from a tour of duty in Afghanistan with the Marines and made his family and country proud. My Mom turned 88 years young last April and my Grandsons turned 3 and 1 years old this year. Two of my daughters got new jobs and my oldest daughter retained her teaching job while balancing a family and a new home.

My wife and best friend continues to amaze me and intrigue me. My love for her will never diminish with time and we celebrated our 37th anniversary this summer with many more to come. Next year will be an exciting one. In March we will be part of a full military honors funeral ceremony for my deceased Father at Arlington National Cemetery, just days after the 61st anniversary of his passing in a military plane crash. That ceremony has consumed me for the last few months and I am sure it will take up significant portions of my time and energy until March. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I don’t have much, but I am blessed with a loving family and friends. Who could ask for anything more. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and don’t forget to check out Arguewithmydad.com once in awhile along with the Jonathan Turley blog and sometime next year the new blog site, missingcrew.com. See you next year!

In lieu of our usual Friday Free For All, I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Veterans Day. Where would we all be without the sacrifices of our Veterans? What flag would we be flying if our Veterans had not stood up to tyranny in the past, on our behalf? The answers to those questions are easy. (more…)

It has been awhile since I last posted on AWMD, but it is time to get back on the horse after a whirlwind 2 or 3 weeks.  After a wonderful trip to welcome our Marine son home from Afghanistan, he flew home with us and spent a quick, but exciting week here at home.  He is on his way back to base now, but we are relieved to know that he is no longer in harms way in Afghanistan.  He is in an IED Free zone, as he put it, in Hawaii and after visiting Oahu, he is in paradise.  Welcome Home Lt. and thank you!

Since it is Friday it  is time once again for yet another edition of  the AWMD Friday Free For  All. This is the only time of the week when  our arguewithmydad.com readers can control the topic(s) for  discussion.  All you have to do  is get someone else to respond to your  suggested topic and then the  floor is yours.  Don’t be shy and don’t  hesitate.  Get busy and be sure  to let us know your views and  arguments so everyone can read and react  to them.  Right here on arguewithmydad.com.  I will make a few suggestions for possible topics, but they are only suggestions.  Today is Friday so only you can be the decider.   But you need to tell us what you want to  discuss.  So, what is on your mind today?  With all that is going on, how can you not speak your mind?  Let’s hear from you!

My first suggested topic for discussion concerns Teapublicans and global warming.  Just what is it that the Teapublicans don’t get when it comes to global warming?  The middle of the country is embroiled in a killer heatwave and drought and Teapublicans like Oklahoma Senator Jin Inhofe can only joke about it when the heat has killed over a dozen of his constituents!  (more…)

I think I finally have solved the internet connection problem that has been haunting me and I am able to post some good news.  My Son, who is a Lieutenant in the Marines just sent us an email to inform us that he is officially out of Afghanistan air space and winging his way back to his home base in Hawaii!  “Mom” and I were thrilled and our feet haven’t touched ground since reading the email.  I can only hope that the parents and loved ones of the Marines and soldiers still in country will be able to feel the joy that we felt today upon hearing the news!!  Happy Days are here again!

I will resume my normal posting schedule shortly.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.  Semper Fi!

Due to internet connection problems, I have been unable to post for the last few days.  I am glad that I have repaired the connection in time for Memorial Day.  This day has special meaning for me this year because my Son, who is a Marine officer, currently deployed in Afghanistan, is due to depart from that hell hole any day now.  His mom and I are anxiously awaiting for the news that his plane has left that deadly, crazy place. I only have one item for tonight’s posting and I decided to refrain from my usual Wednesday’s Shorts routine.  It is kind of a personal matter, but I think it might interest you.  Today happens to be the 60th anniversary of a military plane crash.  I know what you are thinking.  There are probably a lot of military plane crashes that have happened over the years so why is this anniversary so important.  Well, it is important to me because my Dad was on the C-124 that went down in the Atlantic on Good Friday, March 23rd, 1951.    (more…)

I have been having a great day with my grandsons and we are a little late with the Friday Free For All posting.  It has been a busy and super snowy week, and we have received more than 2 feet of  snow here, but we have finally made it to the weekend!   Hooray!! I will make a suggestion for a possible topic, but it is only a suggestion.  Today is Friday so only you can be the decider.   But you need to tell us what you want to discuss.  So, what is on your mind today?  With all that is going on, how can you not speak your mind?  Let’s hear from you!

Since I am already late with the Friday Free For All, I want to refer you to the Jonathan Turley website and you can see my latest Guest Blog. You can see the article here.   Feel free to join the discussion on Prof. Turley’s site or here on AWMD.    (more…)

In lieu of our usual Friday Free for All, I would like to just take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year.  May the new year bring you and yours peace and prosperity.  The New Year is a time of reflection and hope.  Time to reflect back on the past year with hope that we don’t make the same mistakes in 2011.  I know I am hoping that my family is safe and prosperous in the New Year and that the Marines in Afghanistan and around the world are safe and warm tonight and are able to take a moment to have a toast to a better and more peaceful 2011!  What are you hoping for?

Let’s meet back here on Monday to start the 2011 version of Arguewithmydad.com!!    By the way, I am still guest blogging on Professor Jonathan Turley’s blog site through the weekend.  If you need a distraction over the weekend, check it out.  Take care.

It has been a busy and cold week, and Christmas is getting very close, but we have finally made it to the weekend! I will make some suggestions for a possible topic, but they are only suggestions.  Today is Friday so only you can be the decider.   But you need to tell us what you want to discuss.  So, what is on your mind today?  With all that is going on, how can you not speak your mind?  Let’s hear from you!

My first suggested topic for discussion tonight is one that really makes mad.  It seems that one of our old “friends”, the United States Chamber of Commerce, actually lobbied against the recent legislation that was aimed at providing medical care for 9/11 first responders.  Why, you ask would the Chamber of Commerce be against helping genuine American heroes get help for the maladies that were caused by inhaling dangerous materials while they were helping victims of 9/11?  “The Chamber fought to help kill the 9/11 compensation bill because it was funded by ending a special tax loophole exploited by foreign corporations doing business in the United States.”  http://thinkprogress.org/2010/12/17/chamber-911-responders/  Isn’t that special?!  The Chamber tried to protect a tax break that allows U.S. Corporations to send jobs overseas!   The leaders of the Chamber should be sent overseas and then maybe we could keep the jobs here and maybe we could then help these heroes.  What do you think?

The regulars out there ( I hope there are a couple of you) might have noticed that I skipped the regular Friday Free For All.  At least this time I have a great excuse for missing it.  My daughter gave birth to our second Grandson late Thanksgiving evening and we were too busy on Friday gettng ready to see baby Emmet when his parents bring him home from the hospital on Saturday.  Our oldest Grandson, Jack,  stayed at our house for a couple of days along with his chocolate lab friend, Lizzie.  “Mom” and I and our youngest daughter had a lot of fun taking care of both of them.  We were delighted to take Big Brother Jack back to his house to welcome his new baby brother.  It was thrilling to see baby Emmet in his home for the very first time.  It was also thrilling to see my daughter resting at home and her husband lovingly taking care of her and both boys!

Welcome home Emmet.  We have been waiting anxiously for you and now that you are here, we can’t wait to see you again.  Take care of your big brother and your Mom and Dad.  See you soon!
